Panchamrit

Panchamrit/ Charnamrit

Panchamrit or Charnamrit is a traditional beverage made especially during Hindu Poojas and religious occasions. It is offered to Gods and is considered as the most holy and sacred offering.

Panchamrit is a sanskrit word, ‘Panch’ means ‘Five’ and ‘Amrit’ means ‘The Nectar of Gods’.  That is why panchamrit is also called the ‘Drink of Gods’.

The panch or five nectars are- Milk, Curd, Ghee, Sugar and Honey. All the five ingredients used to make it have symbolic meaning and are of significant importance. Milk represents purity and piousness, Curd is for prosperity and focus, Ghee is for nourishment and well being, Sugar adds blissfulness and sweetness and Honey depicts dedication and unity (as it is produced jointly by honeybees).

The addition of Ganga jal or the Holy water of River Ganga and Holy basil leaves or Tulsi leaves makes the Panchamrit all the more holy and sacred.

Panchamrit has many health benefits. It not only nourishes and nurtures the body but also increases immunity.

The prepared Panchamrit is offered to God by keeping the prepared bowl in front of God.

After the pooja, you can serve it as Prasad to everyone.
