Minty Lemonade
Lazy hot summer afternoon calls for something refreshing, cold and rejuvenating and above all quick to make. What best than to have a super cool homemade glass of Lemonade.
Lemonade is age old thirst quencher specially during summers. A simple combination of water, sugar and lemon juice gives you a lemonade, which is any time better than the store bought sugar laden juices or fizzy drinks.
Lemonade: sugar, water, lemon juice. Easy, right? Yes it is easy but the problem is that if you just stir all of these together the sugar will sink to the bottom. So the best way to make lemonade is to make a simple syrup first, by heating water and sugar together until the sugar is completely dissolved, and then mix that with the lemon juice.
The proportions will vary depending on how sweet and strong you like your lemonade, and how sour your lemons are to begin with.
Make the simple syrup, combine with the lemon juice, and then add more water (and ice) to dilute the lemonade to your taste.
You can easily make this simple syrup ahead and chill for later use. If you have a bunch of lemons you need to process, you can juice them and freeze the juice too.
This syrup is ridiculously easy to make and since it lasts a while in the fridge, we can make one large batch and go back to it each time we want to make a cocktail. And trust me on this, keep a batch of this syrup ready in your fridge and in no time you can create amazing Mocktails. Store the syrup in an airtight container, in the fridge, until ready to use. Basic syrup will last up to 4 weeks.
How to Make Simple SyrupFor your basic simple syrup recipe, you only need two ingredients: water and sugar. The most common ratio for simple syrup is equal parts water to sugar. For a richer syrup, use more sugar. For a leaner syrup, use less.
