With our lives as busy as they are, it’s important to remember the happiness the family time brings for each and every member of the family. In today’s fast paced world, we hardly get time to have a leisurely meal with our family. So, it becomes all the more important for the family members to sit with each other and have a hearty chat and meal at least once a day.
And for special occasions, family time is the most beautiful time. The moments spent together are memories to be cherished forever!!
The word ‘Fondue’ comes from the French verb ‘fondre’, which means ‘to melt’. Fondue can be of both types: Savory- Cheese Fondue, and Sweet- Chocolate Fondue.
My family is fond of Chocolate fondue. And I love putting together this leisurely treat for them. I enjoy assembling fruits, cookies, wafers, cake chunks, marshmallows etc. around that pot of warm chocolate. It gives you such a nice feeling. When you slide your favorite fruit or cookie on to the skewer and dip it into a warm chocolate sauce, the feeling is so divinely delicious!
This recipe of mine is my family’s favorite. Most fondue recipes use either bittersweet or dark chocolate but we don’t like it. So, I make it with a combination of Milk chocolate and Semi sweet chocolate which works perfectly for us. However, if you are fond of dark chocolate, the quantities in the recipe mentioned will work for that too. Just replace the amount of milk and semisweet chocolate with either dark or bittersweet, or a combination of both. I like using two varieties of chocolate as it gives a very rich and intense flavor.
This gorgeous, divinely delicious and sumptuous delicacy is so so easy to make and so so delicious to devour!!
LIST OF THINGS NEEDED FOR THE FONDUE
1- Chocolate
You can choose from Bittersweet, Dark, Milk, Semisweet, but do make sure to choose the highest quality chocolate possible.
2- Dairy Cream
For this you need heavy or thick cream. If you want to use low-fat cream, that will also work for this recipe.
However, a higher fat content will give your fondue a richer taste.
3- Butter
4- Milk
5- Small saucepan
6- Heat proof bowl
7- Fondue Pot
A fondue pot does look lovely but if you don’t have it, no worries. You can just warm the sauce in a saucepan and then transfer it to a pretty bowl.
8- Skewers
Long stemmed metal skewers are perfect. But if you don’t have them, then either small forks or bamboo skewers will work well.
ALL THE DIP-ABLES I LIKE FOR MY CHOCOLATE FONDUE
If you ask me, everything tastes better with chocolate on it. Be creative here and put a board full of your family favorites.
Here are some of our favorites:
--Fresh fruit: strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, bananas, cherries, apples, pineapple, oranges.
--Cookies and Wafers : Oreos, shortbread cookies, flavored wafers, caramel cookies.
--Other treats: pound cake (store-bought or homemade), Rice Krispies treats, brownie bites, marshmallows.
INGREDIENTS:
Milk Chocolate- 100 grams, chopped
Semisweet Chocolate- 100 grams, chopped
Heavy Cream- 125 milliliter or 1/2 cup
Butter- 2 tablespoon
Milk- 1/4th cup
Dipping Ideas-
Pineapple, Strawberries, Blueberries, Banana, Grapes, Cookies, Wafers
DIRECTIONS:
Start by preparation and arranging all the ingredients you will be dipping in the fondue. The fondue is prepared in no time so you want to have everything ready.
Put the chopped chocolate in a heat-proof bowl.
In a small saucepan, put cream, milk and butter. Keep it on medium to low heat.
Just warm everything so that everything gets mixed together.
The moment you see tiny bubbles on the edges switch off the heat.
Pour this warm mix over the chopped chocolate pieces.
Mix everything well with the help of a spatula.
Stir until you get a silky smooth mixture.
Immediately pour this warm sauce into the fondue pot and light the candle of your fondue pot.
Serve it immediately along with the treats and goodies you have arranged for the dipping.
If the fondue gets thick or starts to harden, reheat it in the microwave in bursts of 10-15 seconds, stirring in between, until melted and smooth again.
Enjoy the sinfully delicious treat with your family!!
