Soft cottage cheese(Paneer) pieces dunked in thick n rich n creamy tomato gravy,Paneer lovers will make a beeline for this dish.

This shahi paneer recipe is perfect for a dinner party and would leave your guests craving for more so make sure you have sufficient quantities tucked away in the kitchen. 

This shahi paneer recipe uses cashew nut based tomato gravy to bring in the rich texture and flavor.This is my version of making it. It is without onion n garlic.


Serves:4.  Cooking time:30-40 mins.


๐Ÿ”บFor The Red Gravy

๐Ÿ”บ3 Tomatoes(chopped)

๐Ÿ”บ22-25 Cashew nuts

๐Ÿ”บ2 whole dry Red chillies

๐ŸŒžOther Ingredients:

๐Ÿ”บ2″pc of Cinnamon (dalchini)

๐Ÿ”บ4Cloves (laung / laving)


๐Ÿ”บ1 Bayleaf (tejpatta)

๐Ÿ”บ3 tsp dried fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi)

๐Ÿ”บ1tbsp Ghee

๐Ÿ”บ4tbsp tomato puree

๐Ÿ”บ1 tsp garam masala

๐Ÿ”บ1tsp coriander powder

๐Ÿ”บ½ tsp Ginger powder

๐Ÿ”บA pinch of Hing

๐Ÿ”บsalt to taste

๐Ÿ”บ3tbsp whisked low fat curd (dahi)

๐Ÿ”บ1/2 tsp sugar

๐Ÿ”บ3 cups Cottage cheese/ Paneer cut into 1” cubes


๐Ÿ”บFor the Red Gravy:

Combine all the ingredients along with 1cup of water in a wok/Pan and boil on a  high flame for 10 to 15 minutes or till the tomatoes ar soft, while stirring occasionally.

Cool and blend in a mixer to a smooth paste. Keep aside.



๐Ÿ”บHeat the Ghee in a wok/Pan.





๐Ÿ”บAdd the Ginger powder, hing, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and bayleaf and sauté on a medium flame for a few more seconds.

๐Ÿ”บAdd the dried fenugreek leaves, tomato purée and red gravy and sauté on a medium flame for another 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring continuously.



๐Ÿ”บAdd the Garam masala n coriander powder n mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes, while stirring continuously



๐Ÿ”บAdd the curd, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 more minute.

๐Ÿ”บAdd the sugar. N 1/4 cup of water, paneer and Salt n  mix well and cook on a medium flame for another 5-10 minutes.



๐Ÿ”บServe hot with Roti,Chapati,Poori,Paratha or Rice.
