Makhana Chaat/ Fox nuts Chaat

Makhana Chaat/ Fox nuts Chaat

Makhanas are popularly known as phool makhanas, lotus seeds, fox nuts or gorgon nuts. Makhana or Fox nuts are part of the lotus flower. The seeds of the lotus flower are collected and processed in order to obtain these healthy makhanas.

-Makhanas are gluten-free and are packed with protein, potassium, phosphorus, fiber, magnesium, iron and zinc.

-Makhanas are low in cholesterol, fat, sodium as well as low in glycemic index.

-Makhanas are low in calories, making them an ideal snack to munch anytime or to satiate those in-between meal hunger pangs.

-Makhanas make perfect snacks for those suffering from high blood pressure and heart diseases due to high magnesium and low sodium content.

-Other than anti-aging enzymes, presence of a natural flavonoid called kaempferol helps prevent inflammation and ageing.

-According to Ayurveda, makhanas have astringent properties that make them beneficial for kidneys.

-They are delicious, economical, easy to prepare and yet wholesome and healthy.

When the makhanas come to room temperature add them in the whisked yogurt.

HOW TO ASSEMBLE THE MAKHANA CHAAT

Take a deep plate or bowl in which you want to serve the chaat.
You can serve either in a big plate/ bowl or in individual plates/ bowls.
Add curd makhanas to it.
Sprinkle salt, red chili powder, jeera powder and chaat masala powder over it.

Drizzle tamarind chutney and coriander mint chutney over it.
Finally finish off with some finely chopped fresh coriander leaves, sev and pomegranate arils.
