Carrot Halwa Trifle/ Gajar Halwa Trifle
When life gives you Lemons, make Lemonade, and when you have leftover Gajar Halwa, make Trifle ;) I love giving a new avatar to leftover dishes. This way my family doesn’t come to know that they are eating leftovers and it also pushes my culinary skills to another level.
Coming to my share, these are yummy glasses of TRIFLE PUDDING. They are just an absolute delight not only for your eyes and soul but tummy too. Taking this most loved, the quintessential winter dessert of India, Carrot Halwa or Gajar ka Halwa, to another level of heavenliness by making this fusion dessert CARROT HALWA TRIFLE PUDDING, is a brilliant idea!!!
Trifle is basically a layered ensemble of desserts. Trifle in English cuisine is a dessert made with fruits, a thin layer of cake or sponge fingers soaked in sherry or another wine, and custard. It can be topped with whipped cream.
The fruit and sponge layers may be suspended in fruit-flavored jelly , and these ingredients are usually arranged in three or four layers. The contents of a trifle are highly variable. There are so many variations in the traditional recipe; some will boast jelly in their trifle, some not; fruit is a must-have for some, for others, no way. Some use chocolate, coffee too.
Trifle can be put together in a big Trifle Bowl or can be served in individual portions, like I have done.
I will share what went into the layers or rather how I assembled it. You can choose your ingredients according to whatever is available with you. My version of trifle is without any wine, sherry or jelly. My family is one of teetotalers so any alcoholic thing is totally out of the picture. I was out of jelly so made Trifle without it.
The result was just sooo sooo scrumptious and delicious that all these Trifle glasses were finished in no time.INGREDIENTS:
*Cake pieces- 2cups
However, you can use pound cake too.
*Custard- of 500 ml Milk
Make the custard according to pack instructions with the Custard powder, Milk and Sugar to create a really thick custard.
*Carrot Beetroot Halwa-2 cups
*Whipped cream- 200 ml
Whip the heavy cream till stiff peaks.
*Fruits- Strawberries (chopped)-3-4
Pomegranate Arils- 1/2 cup
*Slivered Nuts to garnish- Almonds, Pistachios, Cashews
*Maraschino Cherries- to garnish
HOW TO ASSEMBLE TRIFLE
Line the bottom of the dish or glasses with the cake slices.
Spoon over the custard, in a thick layer. Leave it for 5-10 minutes to set.
Next, spoon some Gajar halwa over the custard layer.
Finally, finish with a thick layer of whipped cream either spooned over or piped using a piping bag.
Decorate with strawberry slices and other fruits and nuts.
